Není možné procházet se ulicemi New Yorku bez toho, aniž by
se vám nevybavila scéna z klipu vaší srdcovky. Bloudit místy, kde např. „Half
man, half amazing“ vyrůstal a hledal inspiraci do svých textů je dalším silným
zážitkem. No kdo by něco podobného nechtěl cítit také.
Manhattan
Harlem
Před desítkami let patřil mezi nejnebezpečnější části
Manhattanu. Dnes je klidným místem pro život blízko centra se stejným počtem
bílých i černých obyvatel. Harlem se stal také po 2 týdny naším domovem. Navštivte
třeba okolí ulic St Nicholas Ave a 145th
St. This is Harlem, baby!
Brooklyn
Brooklyn Bridge,
Manhattan Bridge a okolí.
Oblíbený spot A Tribe Called Quest, Gang Starr a mnoha
dalších. Srdcová záležitost a povinnost.
Bedford-Stuyvesant
Bed-Stuy – do or die! Tuto brooklynskou část musíte zažít
nejen kvůli streetartu, ale především kvůli samotné atmosféře. Je téměř
nepopsatelný pocit procházet se ulicemi, kde malí černoušci jezdí na
koloběžkách, kde voní čerstvě vyprané prádlo z místní prádelny, kde vrčí
holící strojky v Barber shopech a kde staříci hrají poblíž parku šachy.
Občas jsme ale ve vzduchu cítili divné vibrace a usoudili jsme, že bude lepší
nechat foťák v batohu. Můžete zde taky vidět dům a ulici, kde vyrůstal
Biggie (226 St James Place) či
ulici, kde se natáčel film „Do The Right Thing“ a koukat do okna, odkud vysílal
z rádiového éteru Mr. Seňor Love Daddy (174 Stuyvesant
Avenue).
Bushwick
Lze sem plynule přejít z Bed-Stuye. Spojte tyto dvě
části Brooklynu a máte program na celý den. Sotva vyjdete z podchodu metra
(zastávka Jefferson St) dostanete
pořádnou dávku streetartu. Bushwick je mekkou graffiti. Spíše než na ulici jsme
si mnohdy připadali jako v té nejlepší galerii umění na světě.
Williamsburg a
Greenpoint
Zajímavé obchody, bistra, showroomy a (opět) graffiti. Navíc
máte každou chvíli pocit, že za rohem potkáte třeba Joeyho Badasse.
Coney Island
My jsme si tu připadali trochu jako Will Smith v „Miami“,
ale vy si tu můžete mimo léto připadat třeba jako Reks v „25th Hour“.
Queens
Queensbridge
Nas, Mobb Deep, Blaq Poet a další. Nejlépe uděláte, když
vystoupíte na zastávce Queensbridge, projdete
se po 40th nebo 41th Ave a přijdete rovnou pod známý most Queensboro Bridge. Jednotlivé
bloky v části Queensbridge jsou cihlovým bludištěm s neopakovatelnou
(a drsnou) atmosférou.
Flushing meadows
Na předposlední zastávce metra v Queensu se nachází
Corona Park. Toto místo zná většina lidí díky US Open. My jsme sem ale cíleně
jeli najít globus obří jako kráva. „Award Tour“, „Flava In Ya Ear“, „Say Goodnight“.

Bronx
South Bronx
Jak řekl KRS One, každý, kdo se zajímá o hip hopovou kulturu
musí navštívit Jižní Bronx. Hřiště, na kterém kdysi roku 1973 pořádal DJ Kool
Herc první hip hopovou akci. Místa, kde vznikaly první myšlenky Zulu Nation.
Zdi a stěny, na kterých se začaly objevovat první graffiti.
It’s absolutely wonderful if you go by the streets of NYC
and imagine some scenes from your favourite hip hop music videos. We’ve been
lost in place, where „Half man, half amazing“ was founding some inspiration. Go
there and feel it too!
Manhattan
Harlem
This place was the most dangerous in Manhattan a few years
ago. Today it’s a calm neighbourhood with the same number of whites and blacks.
Harlem has became our home for 2 weeks. We recomend to visit neighbourhood of
St Nicholas Ave. This is Harlem, baby!
Brooklyn
Brooklyn Bridge,
Manhattan Bridge
The favourite spot of A Tribe Called Quest, Gang Starr and
many more. Duty for everyone!
Bedford-Stuyvesant
Bed-Stuy – do or die! You must visit this neighbourhood not
just because of streetart. Atmosphere of this place is incredible! You see
little children on the street riding the scooter, you feel the smell of fresh
clothes from the laundry, you hear the sound of electric shavers from the local
barber shop, you see some old grandpas playing the chess in the park. Sometimes
we felt some bad vibrations in the air, so we rather decided to hide our
cameras for a while. In Bed-Stuy you can see house and street, where Biggie
grown up (226 St James Place). You can also
visit the street, where the movie „Do
The Right Thing“ arised, (the window of Mr. Seňor Love Daddy’s house is on 174
Stuyvesant Avenue).
Bushwick
You can couple Bed-Stuy and Bushwick, than you have a
program for all day. If you get off subway on Jefferson St, you’ll understand, why Bushwick is the mecca of
graffiti. We felt rather like in the best art gallery than on the street.
Williamsburg and
Greenpoint
You can find there some interesting shops, cafés, showrooms
and graffiti of course. Furthermore you feel like you can meet Joey Baddass
round the corner.
Coney Island
We felt like Will Smith in „Miami“ a little bit, but you can
feel like Reks in „25th Hour“ in the low season there.
Queens
Queensbridge
Nas, Mobb Deep, Blaq Poet and many more. The best you can do
is to get off subway station Queensbridge,
than you pass 40th Ave and you’ll be
straight under the Queensboro Bridge. Typical brown houses in Queensbridge
makes unrepeatable and tough atmosphere.
Flushing Meadows
Last but one subway station in Queens is in the middle of
Corona Park. Most of all know this place thanks to US Open. But we wanted to
visit this place because of the giant globe. „Award Tour“, „Flava In Ya Ear“,
„Say Goodnight“. You understand now?
Bronx
South Bronx
KRS One said, that everyone, who loves hip hop culture must
visit South Bronx. The playground, where DJ Kool Herc throw the 1st hip hop
party. Places, where were arising some Zulu Nation ideas. Walls, where appeard
the first graffiti.
